Currys threatens action against price comparison site

OUT-LAW News, 13/10/2000

UK retailer Currys is reported to be threatening litigation against Pricerunner.com over the price comparison web site’s refusal to remove details about Currys' products. Currys apparantly claims that some of the details are inaccurate.

According to a report today in Silicon.com, Pricerunner.com is saying that it offered to work with Curry’s to ensure prices were always accurate, but Currys refused.

If the pricing information is proved to be inaccurate, Currys can take action and Pricerunner.com will fall foul of comparative advertising requirements in the UK code to which it must adhere. However, if the pricing is accurate, it is unclear what legal ground Currys can rely on to stop Pricerunner.com reporting on its pricing, since it is public information and such price information is not protected by copyright.
