Apple drops trade secrets case

OUT-LAW News, 09/08/2001

According to CNET News, Apple has settled a lawsuit against one of its former employees who posted Apple trade secrets on a web site under the pseudonym “Worker Bee”. The action was initially brought in August last year.

Yahoo! was ordered to trace and reveal the identity of “Worker Bee” who had revealed secrets about forthcoming Apple products on a Yahoo! GeoCities web site. Yahoo! identified the individual as Juan Gutierrrez, an Apple employee at the time.

The company appears to be satisfied with an admission from Gutierrez that he posted the confidential information in breach of a non-disclosure agreement he had entered into with the company. According to CNet, he did not appear to have acted maliciously and has agreed to hand over any remaining classified information in his possession.
