Trade mark owners given extra time for .us registrations

OUT-LAW News, 09/04/2002

The registry for domain names ending .us is giving extra time to those with existing or pending US trade marks to register their marks as .us domain names in advance of the domain being opened to the public on a first come, first served basis.

The original deadline for what is known as the Sunrise Period was today. Instead, trade mark owners are being given until 16th April. Beginning 24th April, the general public will be able to register .us domain names.

According to NeuStar, “the increased awareness of .us over the past couple of weeks, has prompted tremendous response from companies around the world to protect their trademark interests in .us.”
