OUT-LAW News, 23/09/2002

The Computer Crime Unit of Scotland Yard has announced the arrest of a 21-year old man suspected of creating the “T0rn root kit”, which attacks Linux servers. The suspect, who lives in a London suburb but has yet to be identified, was arrested under the Computer Misuse Act 1990. According to reports, the man has been released on bail pending further investigation.

The ‘T0rn root kit”, which has been described as a “Trojan horse hacking tool”, has been available on the web since 2000. Scotland Yard said that it had been investigating T0rn in co-operation with the FBI since 2001.

According to the police, computer equipment has been seized and is currently being analysed by experts.
