Legal music downloads in the UK have reached two million this year, according to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). Figures released by the trade group show that, for the first time in five years, sales of CD singles are up too.

The second-quarter figures released on Monday by the BPI show an increase of 3.7% in album sales, music DVD doubling its share of the UK music market, and the singles market up 8.1%.

The recent launches of the UK iTunes and Napster music services have helped raise legal downloads in the UK to 500,000 per month, up from 100,000 per month in the previous quarter.
