Financial help for Scottish companies to exploit their IP

OUT-LAW News, 24/03/2005
Companies that have good ideas or technologies but insufficient resources to exploit them are invited to enter a Scottish Enterprise competition that could win them financial and management backing for spinning-out their intellectual property.

The Scottish Spin-Out Challenge is being run through Scottish Enterprise's High Growth Start-Up Unit in partnership with the CBI, Institute of Directors, Scottish Chambers of Commerce and Scotland on Sunday.

Scottish Enterprise has made clear that this is "not another business plan competition". Instead, its aim is to develop high-growth Scottish businesses with global potential. It is open to companies that can demonstrate potential world-class intellectual property – such as expertise, patents or processes – that will be assigned or licensed to a new spin-out company. Finalists will be rewarded with "the bulk of expertise and resources needed to successfully launch a new spin-out business," according to Scottish Enterprise.

The closing date for applications is 22nd April 2005.
