The Nissan Motor Co. has sued Audi, alleging that its German rival's use of the letter Q as an identifier for its new sports utility vehicles is infringing Nissan's trade marks in the letter, according to the Detroit News.
Nissan has used the letter as an identifier for its luxury Q45 and QX4 cars since 1989, and has US registered trade marks in the names and a strap line: "The new Q".
But Audi is planning to market its new "Q7" sports utility vehicle in the US next year, and Nissan wants to block its path.
Nissan wants an injunction and damages, says the Detroit News.
Elsewhere, the colour blue is the subject of a dispute between telecom rivals O2 and Liquid Telecom. O2 claims that "watery" advertising from the smaller firm infringes its trade marks for bubbles and the colour blue. According to news site The Register, O2 is threatening legal action.
