The launch of the .eu top-level domain, due to take place by the
end of the year, will also introduce a new procedure for the
resolution of domain name disputes. A consultation has been
launched on the proposed .eu dispute resolution system.
Plans for the .eu domain included the implementation of an
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) scheme, based on that
currently operated by the World Intellectual Property Organisation
(WIPO). Such a scheme can serve as a faster and cheaper alternative
to court proceedings.
Responsibility for the .eu ADR system was given in April this
year to the Prague-based Arbitration Court attached to the Economic
Chamber and the Agricultural Chamber of the Czech Republic. The
Czech Arbitration Court, a not-for-profit organisation founded in
1949, already provides ADR for domain name disputes in the Czech
top-level domain registry.
The Czech Arbitration Court has now published its plans (in
English) for implmenting the ADR scheme and seeks comments by 7th
September.
