A wholesale distributor of CDs, DVDs and video games has agreed
to pay £8,000 in an out of court settlement with the Business
Software Alliance (BSA) following an investigation into its use of
unlicensed Adobe and Microsoft software.
Prism Leisure was reported anonymously to the BSA which offers
financial rewards to whistleblowers. The company started over 20
years ago and has become one of the major employers in the
Middlesex region.
“Copyright law states that each software program must have a
license,” said Siobhan Carroll, Regional Manager Northern Europe at
BSA. “As companies become more dependent on IT, it can become
harder to manage their software assets – this is why we recommend
companies deploy effective software asset management
processes.”
