Online ticket agency closed by DTI

OUT-LAW News, 07/02/2006

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has closed down Getmetickets.net, an online ticket agency accused of not only charging very high prices for tickets, but also, in some cases, of not delivering them to clients.

The agency, which offered tickets for fully-booked concerts and shows, had twice been the subject of an investigation by the BBC’s Watchdog programme.

The DTI launched its own investigation and last week petitioned the High Court to wind up the company in the public interest. The Official Receiver has now been appointed Provisional Liquidator of Get Me Tickets Limited and its associated companies.

The website has been replaced with a notice from the Official Receiver, explaining that a number of tickets had been found at the company's premises, but there did not appear to be enough to supply all of the firm’s customers who had ordered and paid for tickets.

“The court has therefore ordered that those tickets held by the company should be distributed to customers in the order that customers paid for the tickets,” says the notice. “My staff are sending all the tickets recovered from the premises to these customers on the basis and they should receive tickets within the next few days. There are no other tickets available for any other customers.”

The full petition hearing is due to take place on 22nd March.
