National conference on public sector web accessibility

Scottish Executive supports national conference on Public Sector web accessibility to educate public sector web professionals in latest accessibility guidelines

22/05/2006

Several leading companies in the field of accessibility including User Vision, Parallel 56, and OUT-LAW.COM and have teamed up to hold a major UK national conference on public sector web site accessibility.

The conference is being held in association with The Scottish Executive as they believe that high quality public sector websites make a significant contribution to open and accessible government.

Website Accessibility 2006 aims to give guidance and the latest insight on best-practice in the field of web accessibility in the public sector, notably the new PAS 78 guidelines and a preview of Version 2.0 of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. Aimed at public sector web professionals and development staff of all levels of understanding, the one-day event takes place at The Scotsman Hotel, Edinburgh from 10am on Tuesday 13th June 2006.

Speakers at Website Accessibility 2006 include the RNIB, The Scottish Executive, accessibility specialists User Vision, website developers Parallel 56 and leading legal IT web site OUT-LAW.com, as well as several representatives from the Scottish public sector.

In addition to keynote speeches and workshops, delegates will also have the opportunity to receive free 1-2-1 accessibility consultancy on the day with Parallel 56 and User Vision, as well as plenty of opportunities to network with some of the leading thinkers in web accessibility.

Chris Rourke, Managing Director of User Vision, one of the companies behind the event comments:

“Accessibility is a hot issue in the public sector, and with the new PAS 78 guidelines, and WCAG V2.0 on the horizon, plus the E-government take-up campaign, it is important that web site professionals stay ahead of the game. This conference aims to do just that – to give specialist advice and guidance on the latest thinking whatever the level of understanding or experience the delegate has. It’s also a great opportunity to swap notes and ideas with peers, as well as a chance to get some free consultancy on your particular accessibility challenges.”
