Lords explore internet security

OUT-LAW News, 28/07/2006

The first Parliamentary inquiry into personal internet security is being launched this week on what the House of Lords describes as an issue of "ever increasing importance to the public, businesses and Government".

The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee will consider the threats as well as the adequacy of the regulatory framework for internet services and the cybercrime laws of the UK.

Chairman Lord Broers said: "Technology is changing so fast that no-one seems to have had time to step back and look in the round at the emerging threats to personal security, and the ways society might counter them. This inquiry gives Parliament a chance to do just that.”

His committee wants to hear from members of the public who have had direct experience of internet security problems before 23rd October 2006.

It is expected that the Committee's report will appear in summer 2007.
