John Salmon's biography
John has been a Partner with Pinsent Masons since joining the
firm in 1999. He specialises in providing commercial technology and
intellectual property advice to businesses throughout the UK and
Europe.
Key relevant experience includes:
- Bright Grey – Representing Bright Grey, a
division of Royal London, on the intellectual property, IT and
e-commerce aspects of its start up financial services business
based in Edinburgh. This included (1) protecting the new brand of
the business (2) advice on the procurement of IT products and
services from a range of different suppliers (3) drafting and
negotiating complex contracts with these suppliers and (4) advice
on data protection, on-line selling, web-site compliance and
on-line sales processes.
- BBC – Representing BBC Scotland in relation to
the procurement and maintenance of the technology infrastructure of
their new headquarters at Pacific Quay in Glasgow.
- Her Majesty's Customs & Excise – Advising
HMCE on the identification and use of certain IPR rights with
respect to the development of an interactive e-learning
product.
- Winning Moves Limited – Advising Winning
Moves, an online publisher of computer games in relation to
branding and trade mark issues, international regulatory
compliance, contracts and retainers with developers and other
contractual documentation e.g. royalty sharing agreements with
partners; web site documentation, letters of intent.
- Origo Services – Advising Origo on and
drafting a standard legal framework to address the data protection,
security and contractual issues surrounding the on-line transfer of
data between financial services companies and IFAs through third
party service providers or portals.
John was a founding partner of OUT-LAW and lectures and writes
extensively on the subjects of intellectual property, IT and
e-business legal issues. He is also a board member of ScotlandIS,
the trade body for Scotland's ICT
industry.
