Brief
We are currently looking to recruit IT/Project lawyers who have
from 1 year+ post qualification experience to join our London
Outsourcing, Technology & Commercial Group.
Background
Pinsent Masons has one of the leading and most established

UK. With a team of 17 partners and 53 additional fee-earners,
across a network of offices nationwide, our substantial practice
provides both commercial and contentious services. Pinsent Masons
provides a full range of advice and guidance, including in relation
to: outsourcing, e-business, IT product and services contracts,
commercial contracts, Freedom of Information, intellectual
property, technology, IT and telecoms disputes, data protection and
privacy and media.
Our specialist teams acts for both suppliers and users within
the industry/sector, with a focus on SMEs as well as on major
organisations. We also undertake a substantial amount of work for
the public sector. Our clients are able to benefit further from a

outsourcing teams of any UK law firm. Our expertise in drafting and
negotiating service contracts has extended beyond pure technology
projects and now includes property outsourcing and business process
outsourcing.
Our specialist team advise both suppliers and users of systems
and facilities from the very earliest stage of an outsourcing
project through to re-negotiation and re-competition several years
down the line. We offer a complete advisory service which covers
procurement structures, contract drafting and negotiating, the
transfer of employees and advice on funding and tax issues. Where
appropriate we also assist on the creation of special purpose
vehicles to deal with funding complexities. Outsourcing projects
can sometimes run into difficulties. In these cases we offer
complete project support and dispute resolution services.
Our public sector expertise includes advising on traditional
outsourcings and Public Private Partnerships in central and local
government, as well as projects in the health and defence sectors.
Our private sector credentials span both the supplier and user
market in the finance, insurance, aerospace, retail, manufacturing,
energy, construction and pharmaceutical sectors.
The candidate required
The successful candidates will ideally have gained experience in
a City firm or large regional practice. Candidates must be
technically excellent but equally important, commercially aware and
passionate about business development. They will be a team
player with a strong client focussed approach. They will also have
a strong academic background and excellent communication and
organisational skills.
Examples of recent work
- Fujitsu Services – advising on the DDS "Accord" Project, a
complex PFI procurement project which involved the negotiation of
an overarching contract and also the procurement of telecoms
network services for a sub-project.
- Fujitsu Services – acting in the re-negotiation of an agreement
with the DSS and Post Office under which the contract with the DSS
was terminated and the contract proceeded with Post Office Counters
for the roll-out of its information system to all post offices in
the UK.
- Department of Health – advising the Department and the NHS
Shared Services Taskforce in relation to its £350m PFI/PPP
outsourcing of payroll and HR services (the National Electronic
Staff Records Project) – the largest outsourcing of its kind in
Europe with 1.2m employee records.
- Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs – advising on
the outsourcing of its IT systems under an enabling contract which
permits Government Departments to opt in to the contract. The 10
year contract, awarded to IBM, includes a significant element of
transformation and transfer to IBM of a number of high value
application development projects.
- Diageo – advising in connection with the global
outsourcing of its IT systems, involving the transfer of 2,000
staff across a variety of functions including HR and Finance.
- AOL – drafting a range of contracts including network
agreements, content agreements, advising in relation to the
procurement of anti-virus and firewall software, and the
procurement of call-centre solutions.
- Amazon.co.uk – advising in connection with its information flow
strategy in relation to privacy policy on website and overseas data
protection legislation.
